סוג הקובץ: Mindfulness is a form of being that is rooted in awareness and careful attention to the present. Predominantly influenced by Buddhist traditions, it has been increasing in popularity in recent decades. Although all human beings have the inherent ability to be mindful, practicing mindfulness may need to be enhanced through training because the skill of staying present in the moment and practicing intentional attending may not come easily. The benefits of mindfulness are supported by research that confirms that it enhances psychological well-being not only by reducing negative functioning but also by enhancing the positive. A review of the contents of the University of California at Los Angeles Mindful Awareness Research Center website (www.marc.ucla.edu) can inform you about how far this field has come in its short history. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce you to the significant contributions of Jon Kabat-Zinn, who pioneered this approach, and to the theory and practice of mindfulness. Theoretical constructs, practical applications, and specific interventions are addressed.
